Police Seize £166,000 Worth of Illegal Tobacco and E-cigarettes
A police raid in Devon, UK seized £166,000 worth of illegal tobacco and e-cigarette products. Authorities urge public cooperation.

According to a recent report by the BBC, the police in Devon, England, discovered illegal tobacco and e-cigarette products worth £166,000 (approximately $209,000) in a raid. The authorities seized over 18,000 illegal tobacco products and 2,000 illegal e-cigarettes.

 

The operation was carried out jointly by the Trade Standards Bureau and the local community police in South Hams, and included counterfeit products, untaxed tobacco products, and e-cigarettes that did not meet UK standards.

 

The police inspector Ben Shardlow stated, "These illegal goods have not undergone the standardized safety testing and quality control procedures like legitimate products sold in the UK. This means we cannot know what these products actually contain." He also urged the public to report any suspected illegal activities to the police."

The Canada Border Services Agency said border officers at the Point Edward port of entry in Sarnia, Ontario, seized more than CAD 4.5 million worth of illegal tobacco and nicotine vapes over a seven-day period. The agency said the contraband was entering Canada from the United States and described the seizure as part of ongoing efforts to prevent illegal products from entering the country and disrupt organized crime.
