Russia Plans Graphic Warnings on E-cigarettes to Curb Youth Access
Russian Duma proposes graphic warnings on e-cigarettes to deter youth, combat misconceptions on safety, urge stricter penalties for underage sales.

According to Gazeta's report on November 7, Yana Lantratova, the First Deputy Chairman of the Education Committee of the Russian State Duma, submitted a letter to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, suggesting that e-cigarettes should have "frightening" warning images similar to those on cigarettes.

The letter mentioned that this action is being taken to prevent e-cigarettes from being perceived positively among children and adolescents, while also dispelling misconceptions about their safety. The chairman believes that the warning labels about the dangers of smoking should also apply to e-cigarettes and other nicotine-containing products.

Artyom Metelev, Chairman of the Youth Policy Committee of the Russian State Duma, announced at the end of October that fines for selling e-cigarettes to young people will be significantly increased. Additionally, the State Duma has proposed banning the sale of tobacco and nicotine products to individuals born after December 31, 2009, and has submitted relevant documents for government review.
