Thai Education Committee Takes Action Against Student E-cigarette Use

Thailand's Obec reveals growing concern over student e-cigarette use, with over 25% regular smokers. Strict measures planned for upcoming term.

According to a report from Chiangrai Times on April 8th, the Office of the Basic Education Commission (Obec) of Thailand has stated that the trend of Thai students using e-cigarettes is increasingly worrying. According to the agency's statistics, more than 25% of students are regular smokers, and this proportion is on the rise.

Due to the increasingly serious issue, the organization has decided to take strict measures to address the significant increase in student use of e-cigarettes.

The school is planning to conduct searches of students' belongings before they enter the classroom in order to check for illegal and inappropriate items, such as e-cigarettes. This procedure will be implemented at the school starting from the first day of the new semester on May 15th.

In addition, Thai customs seized tobacco and e-cigarettes worth 34.11 million Thai Baht (approximately 930,000 USD) and arrested 211 smugglers between March 1 and April 5.

Thailand's Lopburi province seized about $100,000 worth of e-cigarettes and arrested one suspect

Thai police have seized approximately 3.08 million baht (approximately US$100,000) worth of illegal e-cigarettes, suspected of tax evasion and illegal importation. The police have transferred the suspects and evidence to the Lopburi Provincial Police Station for further processing.
