According to an announcement released by the CPP (Cambodian People's Party) on May 1st, the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport has instructed all relevant institutions to prepare a draft sub-decree on measures to prevent the use and distribution of e-cigarettes.
The proposal was put forward by the Minister of the department, Hang Chuon Naron, during a meeting held in Phnom Penh on April 30th.
The minister believes that the sub-law is an effective measure to address the youth e-cigarette issue. It will authorize schools to work with local authorities to prohibit the sale of e-cigarettes around schools throughout Cambodia. The minister also called on authorities to take timely action to crackdown on all forms of e-cigarette distribution and trafficking activities within Cambodia, particularly those conducted through online platforms.
The government of the Kingdom of Cambodia has issued guidelines categorizing e-cigarettes as a class of harmful drugs, prohibiting their importation, trafficking, and use.
