Recent Nielsen Data: Vuse and Juul Battle for Market Share
According to Journalnow, Nielsen's latest convenience store data shows Vuse maintaining a 42% market share, while Juul's share dropped to 24.2%.

According to a recent report by American media outlet Journalnow, the latest convenience store data from Nielsen reveals that Vuse, a brand under British-American Tobacco, maintained a market share of 42% in December. In contrast, Juul, ranked second, saw its market share decline from 24.3% to 24.2%. There was no change in the market share of NJoy, which is owned by Altria Group, remaining at 2.6%. Blu, a brand under Imperial Tobacco, also remained unchanged at 1.2%.

It is worth noting that the entire e-cigarette category has experienced a decline of 9.9%.

The Nielsen report primarily focuses on major chain stores, R.J. Reynolds Vapor Co., and Altria Group, who are pushing for the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to strengthen enforcement measures against "illegal" nicotine e-cigarettes in the American market.

Both companies estimate that these illicit products make up approximately half of the share in the US e-cigarette market.

China’s vape exports to the U.S. reached approximately $1.58 billion in the first half of 2026, remaining broadly stable from a year earlier but still below previous growth momentum. 2Firsts’ analysis of China Customs data shows that the U.S. market has not simply returned to its previous trajectory after the enforcement shock and inventory-driven swings of 2025. Instead, export momentum is shifting across product categories. Vaping devices and atomization hardware increased 15.2% year over year, while 6-methyl nicotine-related and other nicotine substitute products surged 234.7%. Meanwhile, traditional nicotine-containing vaping products continued to face pressure.

China’s tobacco tax debate is moving from whether to raise prices to how the tax system should be designed. At a Beijing forum on World No Tobacco Day, experts discussed higher specific excise taxes, minimum tax burdens and dynamic adjustments linked to income and inflation. The issue also connects to China’s broader consumption tax reform, health financing and chronic disease costs. Public reports did not mention e-cigarettes, heated tobacco, nicotine pouches or other new nicotine products.
