Two e-cigarette companies in Shropshire, UK fined for sales violations, highlighting the issue of underage sales and nicotine levels.

According to a report by the Advertiser on August 13, two e-cigarette companies in Shropshire, UK, have been fined for violating e-cigarette sales laws.

The company Positive Business Communications Ltd, operating under the name Vapafone, located on Castle Street in Shrewsbury, UK, was fined and ordered to pay costs totaling £5,035.10 by a local magistrate on July 31st for selling e-cigarettes to minors.

This case was brought by the Trading Standards team of Shropshire Council, and the company was sued after a test purchase operation in June 2023. During the test purchase, a 17-year-old volunteer successfully purchased an ELFBARe e-cigarette without being asked for their age.

Another county-level enterprise has been accused of selling excessive amounts of nicotine-containing e-cigarettes.

The police seized a total of 3,668 oversized capacity e-cigarettes from Thresher store in Shrewsbury, convenience store in Oswestry and Londis store in Wroxham.

The company was found to have sold at least five times the permitted capacity of nicotine e-cigarettes in 2022 and 2023. They were later discovered selling them at night, believing that the Trade Standards Bureau only conducted inspections during office hours. In February 2024, the company was caught again with 209 of these illegal e-cigarettes.

The company was ordered to pay a total of £16,621 in fines and costs, while the owner himself was ordered to pay a fine and costs totaling £5,021.
