Russia Expresses Concern Over Popularity of E-Cigarettes Among Youth

Russian Minister of Industry and Trade expresses concern over the popularity of e-cigarettes among Russian youth, calls for stricter regulations.

According to a report by TASS on October 8th, Anton Alikhanov, the Russian Minister of Industry and Trade, expressed concern about the popularity of e-cigarettes among Russian youth and called for adopting the international practice of a complete ban on e-cigarettes.

The minister stated at the plenary session of the "Bioprom" forum that although regulations prohibit the sale of e-cigarettes to minors under 18, this ban is ineffective. The use of e-cigarettes in schools and sports facilities is widespread, and addressing this issue through education alone has proven to be minimally effective, as teenagers are resistant to this approach.

Furthermore, he mentioned that some countries, including some members of the Eurasian Union, have completely banned the import, production, and sale of e-cigarettes. He believes that from the perspective of preventing certain diseases, this could be a positive measure.

According to Russian law, starting from June 1, 2023, it will be prohibited to sell e-cigarettes to minors, and there will be stricter regulations on the distribution of e-cigarette products. Currently, nicotine-containing products can only be purchased in stores and booths, and sales at markets, trade shows, or through remote or vending machines are prohibited.
