According to the latest reports from Stockport, officials from the local government visited several shops in the city. During their visits to four of these shops, they discovered a variety of illegal e-cigarettes.
The reasons for the violations include inaccurate health warning information and e-cigarettes exceeding the allowable capacity of 2 milliliters.
The Trade Standards Bureau of Stockport City, together with 40 officers from the Greater Manchester Police, conducted a crackdown on criminal activities in the city center and Eccles on November 29. This operation is part of the Greater Manchester Police's targeted initiative "Operation Rimini" and the interdepartmental operation "Operation Acquisition," aimed at addressing issues related to retail crime and anti-social behavior. The enforcement action was undertaken in response to concerns raised by the local community.
Frankie Singleton, a member of the community, culture, and sports department of Stokeport City Council, expressed:
Reducing the supply of illicit products and reducing the risk of children accessing age-restricted products are key priorities for the city's trade standards department. Illicit e-liquids may contain undisclosed harmful substances, and we will continue to collaborate with our colleagues in the Stokeport Police to prevent harm to our children and community.
According to the latest research commissioned by the Northwest Regional Trade Standards Agency, the number of children in Stokport City who smoke has been reduced by half since 2017.
However, during the same period, the number of teenagers using e-cigarettes has more than doubled.
According to a recent investigation, 70% of teenagers who claimed to use e-cigarettes said they used disposable ones. Over one-third of these individuals stated that they use e-cigarettes due to their preferred flavors, the cost-effectiveness compared to traditional cigarettes, and the ease of accessibility compared to tobacco products.
