Turkey CHP Chairman Özgür Özel Responds to E-cigarette Smuggling
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel comments on Ediz Ün's alleged e-cigarette smuggling, with authorities seizing illegal products. Ediz Ün denies involvement.

According to a report by Ensonhaber on September 25th, the leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP) in Turkey, Özgür Özel, responded to a journalist's question regarding allegations of smuggled e-cigarettes involving parliament member Ediz Ün.

Recently, CHP parliamentarian Ediz Ün from Edirne, Turkey, has been accused of involvement in the smuggling of e-cigarettes. During a check of vehicles registered under his name, the police discovered a large quantity of smuggled e-cigarette devices and accessories, including 530 empty e-cigarette boxes, 2242 e-cigarette kits, 2790 e-cigarette coils, 1275 e-cigarette lighters, 130 e-liquid tanks, and 18 bottles of e-liquid. The driver has been dealt with, the illegal goods seized, and the parliamentarian claims to have no knowledge of the matter.

In light of some media outlets publishing inaccurate and false information about me, I feel obligated to make this statement. As a member of parliament for Edirne, I work under the leadership of the Turkish Grand National Assembly to address issues facing our country and Edirne, and dedicate my time to resolving these issues.

Before his visit to the United States, the Chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP) in Turkey, Özgür Özel, responded to the matter at Istanbul Airport. Özel stated that he was satisfied with Ediz's response but emphasized that he will closely monitor the entire process. He noted that Ediz has initiated legal proceedings and has submitted relevant complaints to him.

Furthermore, the city's anti-smuggling agency revealed that multiple vehicles registered under Eddie's name have been recorded entering and exiting the country multiple times within 2024. The frequent activity of these vehicles has sparked further scrutiny and investigation. Additionally, his associates and passengers in the implicated vehicles have also been documented using his vehicles to enter and exit Turkey a total of 61 times in 2024.
